TENN360 INSIGHT:

This isn't just another WTA 500. First played in 1978, Stuttgart's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is the oldest women's indoor tournament on the WTA calendar, and it has been played at the Porsche Arena since 2006. Then there's the wonderfully unusual prize: the singles champion drives away in a Porsche.

The Porsche Arena is compact enough that you don't necessarily need the most expensive ticket to feel close to the action. I'd choose a side-on seat with a clear view down the court rather than sitting too far behind either baseline. The arena atmosphere is one of the event's strengths, so being relatively close matters more here than simply being high up.

Excellent. The Porsche Arena is a compact indoor venue, so the distance between fans and players feels relatively small compared with the enormous complexes used for some WTA events. Practice and qualifying days can be particularly good if getting closer to the players is a priority.

You want a WTA event with personality and history. The combination of indoor clay, a strong German connection, a traditionally impressive field and the slightly surreal sight of a Porsche waiting for the champion makes Stuttgart unlike most tournaments on the calendar. Previous field included Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina and Jasmine Paolini.

I'd go early in the tournament when you can really enjoy the atmosphere without trying to cram everything into one visit. Watch some practice, explore the Porsche exhibition, take in the fan activities and then settle into the arena for the tennis. It feels like a tennis tournament that has deliberately made the whole day part of the experience.

There isn't one — you're indoors. Stuttgart in April can do whatever it likes outside; once you're in the Porsche Arena, you're watching tennis on indoor red clay with none of the usual weather considerations.

Excellent. The Porsche Arena is in the Bad Cannstatt area of Stuttgart and is well connected by the city's public transport network, including S-Bahn and U-Bahn services. For a tournament where parking isn't really necessary, arriving by public transport makes the day considerably easier.

Your perfect tennis day means sunshine, wandering between lots of outdoor courts and discovering matches in different corners of a huge site. Stuttgart is much more contained — you're there for the arena, the atmosphere and the quality of the tennis rather than a sprawling festival.
