TENN360 | THE FAN'S GUIDE TO THE TOUR
tennis is more than the score.
SCORING

15
The first point won in a game.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One point on the board. Three more and you've got yourself a game.

30
The second point won in a game.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Now we're getting somewhere. Two points down, two more needed.

40
The third point won in a game.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One more point and the game is yours — unless tennis decides to make life difficult.

ADVANTAGE
The point won immediately after deuce, giving a player the chance to win the game with the next point.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One point away from the game — but don't get too comfortable. One lost point and you're back to deuce.

BAGEL SET
A set won 6–0.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
A second helping of the tennis world's favourite baked good.

CLOSE OUT THE SET
Successfully win the final game or points needed to take the set after building a lead.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
You've done the hard part. Now finish the job.

COMEBACK
Recovering from a significant disadvantage to win or level a match.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Because apparently being behind is sometimes exactly when the fun starts.

DECIDING SET
The final set played when a match is tied after the required number of sets.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Everything comes down to this. No tomorrow, no next set.

DEUCE
A score of 40–40, requiring a player to win two consecutive points to take the game.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Nobody has blinked. Now somebody needs to win two points in a row.

GAME POINT
A point that would win the game for the player who is ahead.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One point from putting another game on the board.

LOSE HIS/HER SERVE
Fail to win a game in which they were serving, allowing the opponent to break serve.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Their serve was supposed to be home territory. Someone just walked in and took it.

LOVE
The tennis term for zero.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Zero. Nothing. Nada. And somehow tennis decided “love” sounded nicer.

MATCH POINT
A point that would win the match for the player who is ahead.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
This is it. Win this point and you can start thinking about the handshake.

MATCH POINT SAVED
Successfully winning a point that would otherwise have ended the match.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One point from going home — and somehow you stay alive.

MATCH TIE BREAK
A shortened tiebreak format used in some matches instead of a deciding set.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Not quite a full set, but somehow every point feels twice as important.

MINI-BREAK
Winning a point against the opponent's serve during a tiebreak.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Just one point, but in a tiebreak it can feel absolutely enormous.

POINT PENALTY
A penalty in which a player loses a point for a violation.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Sometimes the scoreboard changes without anyone hitting a ball.

SERVICE GAME
A game in which a player is serving.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Your serve, your game. Hold it and you've done your job.

SET
A group of games won by the player who reaches the required number first, usually by at least two games.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
A bigger battle made up of lots of little ones.

SET DEFICIT
Being behind by one or more sets in a match.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
The scoreboard isn't exactly friendly — but the match isn't necessarily over.

SET POINT
A point that, if won, gives a player the set.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
One point from taking the set. Suddenly every ball feels heavier.

SET POINT SAVED
Successfully winning a point that would otherwise have given the opponent the set.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
The set was nearly theirs. Nearly.

SET TIE BREAK
A tiebreak used to decide a set.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
The shortcut nobody really calls a shortcut when they're playing it.

SIX-ALL
A set score of 6–6, usually leading to a tiebreak under the tournament's rules.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Nobody has blinked. Time for the tiebreak.

STRAIGHT SETS
Winning a match without losing a set.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
No detour. No deciding set. Just straight through.

TIE BREAK SET
A set decided by a tiebreak when the required game score is reached.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Six-all arrives and suddenly every point feels enormous.

TIE-BREAK LEAD
Having more points than your opponent during a tiebreak.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Three points up sounds lovely. Ask again when you're three points down.

TIE-BREAK POINT
A point in a tiebreak that could significantly change the outcome or give a player a match, set or advantage.
TENN360 TRANSLATION
Every point suddenly feels like it has a backstory.
