TENN360 INSIGHT:

Transylvania Open has rather quietly become one of the WTA's best-loved 250s. Players voted it the best WTA 250 in the world in both 2022 and 2023, and the combination of a passionate Romanian crowd, indoor tennis and a genuinely modern presentation gives it a personality well beyond its ranking on the calendar.

Centre Court is the one I'd choose, particularly if you can get a lower-level seat with a side-on view. The arena setting keeps you relatively close to the court, while your Centre Court ticket also gives you access to Court 2 when space allows. Court 2 is general admission, so it is also worth wandering over there — some of the best tennis memories at smaller tournaments happen away from the headline court.

Excellent. The two-court format means you are never very far from the action, and the opening days can be particularly good for seeing the wider field rather than just the headline names. The tournament has also put considerable emphasis on the overall player and fan experience, including upgraded facilities and a more sophisticated event setup.

You want a WTA tournament where the crowd genuinely feels part of the event. Romanian players have a particularly strong connection with Cluj, and recent editions have featured the likes of Sorana Cîrstea, Jaqueline Cristian, Gabriela Ruse and Emma Răducanu, giving the home crowd plenty to get excited about. Add a compact venue, indoor conditions and a city that is interesting enough to make a weekend of it, and you've got a very appealing tennis break.

I'd arrive early and make the most of the fact that everything happens under one roof. The tournament uses two courts inside BT Arena, so you can move between the main action and Court 2 without trekking across an enormous tennis complex. And if you can get there for the opening days, even better — in 2026 the first two days offered free admission and a chance to see qualifying and main-draw players before the serious business really got going.

Not even remotely. This is indoor February tennis, so your biggest weather-related concern is what happens between the hotel and BT Arena, rather than whether you're going to get sunburned in the stands. Pack for a proper Romanian winter, then enjoy the luxury of leaving the coat behind once you're inside.

Very good. BT Arena is in Cluj-Napoca and is a well-established multi-purpose venue rather than a tennis site stranded miles outside the city. That makes the tournament relatively straightforward to combine with a city stay, with local public transport and taxis available for getting around. I'd stay centrally and treat the tournament as part of a Cluj weekend rather than hiring a car purely for the tennis.

You are after a giant tournament campus with endless courts, sunshine and the feeling that you've accidentally wandered into a tennis theme park. Transylvania Open is much more intimate than that. It is also a winter indoor event, so if your ideal tennis trip involves sitting outside with sunglasses on and watching the shadows move across a clay court, this probably isn't your one.
