TENN360 INSIGHT:

Clay tennis with the Andes as the backdrop. Honestly, that is a difficult view to beat. The ChileOpen has been part of Santiago's tennis life since returning to the ATP calendar in 2020, and the mountain setting gives it an identity all its own.

The Jaime Fillol Central Court is the one for the full Santiago experience: good tennis with the Andes looming behind it. But this is a compact enough tournament that I'd also make time for the other courts. At an ATP 250, being close to the clay and the players can be more memorable than having the theoretically perfect seat.

Excellent. The relatively compact Club Deportivo Universidad Católica setting gives the tournament a close-up feel, with several courts operating around the central court. It's a good place to watch the professionals without feeling completely removed from them.

You love clay, want a South American tennis experience with genuine character, or enjoy tournaments where the surroundings are part of the story. It's also a particularly good stop if you're following the Golden Swing and want something that feels distinctly Chilean rather than like a travelling ATP circus.

Arrive early and resist the temptation to spend the whole day planted in the main stadium. Wander around, catch some practice and see a few matches on the other courts before settling in for the bigger names. Then, when the Andes start appearing behind the court as the light changes, congratulate yourself on choosing tennis as a holiday.

This is late-summer Santiago, so expect sunshine and plenty of it. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are sensible companions, particularly for daytime sessions. The evenings should feel considerably kinder once the sun goes down — which is also when the atmosphere starts to feel rather good.

Very good. The tournament takes place at Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in San Carlos de Apoquindo, Las Condes. From Los Dominicos, several RED bus routes — including C02, 421, C09 and C27 — serve the venue, making public transport a realistic option.

ou want the enormous grounds and endless distractions of a Masters 1000. Santiago is much more intimate. And if you're not a fan of clay-court tennis, there is no escaping the fact that this tournament is very much committed to the dirt.
