TENN360 INSIGHT:

This is the big one in Doha. The Qatar Open has been part of the women's calendar since 2001 and became a WTA 1000, bringing the very best players in the world to the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. It has already built a rather impressive roll call of champions, from Martina Hingis and Maria Sharapova to Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka.

Centre Court is where I'd want to be, particularly if you can get a lower-level seat with a side-on view. You get the full WTA 1000 atmosphere there, but don't dismiss the outside courts — being close to the players during an early-round match can be far more memorable than sitting high up for a marquee name. Centre Court tickets have also historically included access to the public village and its food and sponsor areas.

Very good. The combination of Centre Court and outside courts gives fans opportunities to get considerably closer to the action than the main stadium alone would suggest. I'd particularly target the first few days, when you can see top players on the practice and secondary courts before the draw becomes more concentrated around Centre Court.

You want a proper WTA blockbuster. It attracts a huge proportion of the world's best players and sits right in the middle of the Middle East swing. Add Doha itself, winter sunshine and a tournament venue that has been the event's home for nearly two decades, and it makes a very convincing tennis holiday.

Don't just buy a ticket for the biggest name you recognise and call it a day. Get there early, watch some of the outer-court action and have a proper wander around the tournament village before settling into Centre Court. The early rounds are particularly good for this because a 56-player singles draw means there is plenty of tennis happening around the complex.

This is Doha in February, so yes — the sun is absolutely coming along. Days are generally warm and bright, and there is very little reason to leave sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat in the hotel room. An evening session is the clever choice if you're not keen on sitting in the full afternoon heat, while still getting that lovely illuminated-court atmosphere.

Excellent. The Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex is in Doha rather than being stranded miles outside the city, at 950 Halat Um Zabad Street in the Lekhwair area. Taxis and ride-hailing are straightforward options, while Doha's metro network makes getting around the city relatively easy; I'd stay somewhere convenient to the network and use taxis when you want the simplest door-to-door option.

You prefer your tennis intimate, slightly scruffy around the edges and small enough that you can recognise the same people by the coffee stand every morning. Qatar is polished and international, and a WTA 1000 naturally comes with bigger crowds, bigger names and a more major-event feel. If your dream tennis trip is a tiny European 250 with a local bakery opposite the entrance, this isn't really that.
