TENN360 INSIGHT:

The Grand Prix Hassan II has been part of the ATP Tour since 1990, and since moving from Casablanca to Marrakech in 2016 it has found a rather perfect home. It is the only ATP Tour tournament on the African continent, played on Moroccan clay at the Royal Tennis Club of Marrakech.

Court Central is where you want to be for the headline matches, but the relatively compact club setting means you don't need to spend a fortune to feel close to the action. I'd choose a good side-on position and then use the smaller courts to get a much more intimate look at the players during the earlier rounds.

Very good. The Royal Tennis Club setting keeps things relatively intimate, particularly in the early rounds when the crowds are lighter. The smaller courts are where I'd spend time if player proximity matters to you — you get a much better sense of the tournament away from the main stadium.

You want tennis with a proper sense of place. There aren't many ATP events where you can watch clay-court tennis in the morning, drink mint tea, disappear into the souks and be eating dinner in the medina that evening. The tournament also sits nicely in the build-up to the European clay season.

I'd combine the tennis with the city. Get to the club early, watch some clay-court action, wander around the grounds and then make the most of Marrakech afterwards — because frankly, it would be a shame to fly this far and only see the inside of a tennis stadium. The tournament also puts on extras such as an exhibition show and Kids' Day.

This is Marrakech in spring, so sunshine is very much part of the attraction. Days can be warm and bright, while temperatures fall once the sun goes down, so sunscreen, sunglasses and a light layer for evening tennis are the sensible combination. And keep some water handy — Moroccan sunshine doesn't hang about.

Very good. The Royal Tennis Club is in Marrakech, close to the city rather than being stranded miles outside it. Taxis and ride-hailing make the journey straightforward, and I'd stay in or around the main city so the tournament can simply become one part of a Marrakech trip rather than a logistical exercise.

You want a huge modern tennis complex with endless courts and a giant entertainment village. Marrakech is much more compact and traditional. And if you're looking purely for the biggest possible ATP field, an ATP 1000 is obviously a different proposition.
