TENN360 INSIGHT:

Linz has been on the WTA calendar since 1987 and celebrated its 35th edition in 2026 with a rather dramatic change of scenery: indoor clay for the first time. The tournament is held at the Design Center Linz, making this a very different kind of clay-court experience — no worrying about rain, wind or whether spring has actually arrived.

The Design Center creates a proper arena atmosphere, but without the enormous scale of a Premier-level event. Premium or Category 1 is where I'd look for a really good view of the main court; if you're happy to sacrifice a little comfort for value, Category 3 has free seating and gives you more flexibility.

Excellent. The indoor setting keeps the tournament compact, and the Design Center format puts fans close to the action rather than separating them from the players across a sprawling tennis complex. The event also includes a dedicated fan area and a Champions Walk celebrating years of the tournament.

You want a proper WTA 500 without the giant-event feeling. Linz has a long history, a strong roll call of former world No.1s and now the novelty of watching top-level women's tennis on an indoor clay court. It also makes a rather nice city-break destination, with the Danube and Linz itself just outside the venue.

I'd make the most of the indoor setting and arrive early. Watch a match, wander around the public areas, have a look at the practice action and then settle in for the bigger matches — it's the sort of tournament where you can comfortably spend several hours without feeling you've signed up for an endurance event.

None — and that's the point. You're indoors, so April weather is completely irrelevant once you walk through the doors. Leave the sunscreen in your bag and concentrate on the tennis.

Excellent. The Design Center is very well connected, with bus stops around 200 metres away and Linz Hauptbahnhof less than 2 km from the venue. Better still, tournament tickets included travel on the Linz Linien network, making public transport the obvious choice for visitors.

Your ideal clay tournament means sunshine, outdoor courts and sitting with a cold drink while you watch the matches. Linz is deliberately the opposite: enclosed, controlled and much more arena-like.
