TENN360 INSIGHT:

Some tournaments are all tennis. Delray Beach is tennis plus a beach-town personality — relaxed, lively and gloriously unpretentious. The tournament mixes ATP 250 action with legends, food, wine and plenty of things happening around the courts.

If you want to get properly close, the on-court seats are the obvious treat — you are only a few feet from those serves and returns. Otherwise, go for a good side-on view of Stadium Court. With a main stadium holding around 4,700, this isn't the sort of place where the players disappear into the distance.

Excellent. The compact setting helps, and the tournament actively builds player interaction into the experience, including autograph sessions and fan events. This is one of those ATP stops where the players can feel like actual humans rather than distant television characters.

You like your tennis with a bit of personality. You want a proper ATP event without the scale of a Masters 1000, enjoy being close to the action, or fancy combining tennis with a Florida break. The tournament also has a particularly strong social side, with food-and-wine events, live entertainment and fan activities woven into the programme.

Make a day of it. Arrive early, watch some practice, wander around the grounds and then head into downtown Delray Beach afterwards. The tournament sits right in the middle of town, so you can have tennis, lunch, cocktails and a stroll along Atlantic Avenue without turning it into an expedition.

Florida in February is doing Florida in February: generally warm, bright and considerably more appealing than February has any right to be. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat, but don't forget that evening sessions can be the sweet spot when the temperature drops and the lights come on.

Excellent. The tennis centre sits in the heart of downtown Delray Beach, right on Atlantic Avenue. That makes the tournament unusually easy to combine with the rest of the town, while event parking is available around the venue. If you're staying centrally, I'd happily leave the car behind and walk.

You want a huge tournament campus where you can spend all day wandering between dozens of courts. Delray is much more compact. And if your idea of a perfect tennis trip involves chilly European grandstands and rain threatening from three directions, Florida may feel suspiciously civilised.
