TENN360 INSIGHT:

Munich has been part of the tennis calendar for more than 100 years, but it got a serious upgrade when it moved up to ATP 500 level in 2025. The setting is still the lovely MTTC Iphitos club beside the English Garden, giving the tournament a slightly more personal feel than its new status might suggest. It is a rather good combination: world-class tennis, Bavarian surroundings and players you can actually feel close to.

The new Centre Court holds around 6,500 and sits directly in front of the historic Iphitos clubhouse. For the best view of the tennis, I'd go side-on rather than directly behind the baseline. But don't ignore Court 1: it is the tournament's former Centre Court and offers a much more intimate experience, while tickets now allow you to choose between Centre Court and Court 1 and still access the side courts.

Excellent. The tournament has made a point of preserving its “touch and feel” character even after becoming an ATP 500, with practice courts and the club layout keeping fans unusually close to the players.

You like your tennis with a sense of place. Munich gives you an ATP 500 field without the feeling that you've wandered into a giant anonymous sports complex, and the English Garden is right there for a post-tennis stroll. The combination of clay, German tennis tradition and a proper city break is hard to argue with.

Go early and make a day of it. The club atmosphere is part of the appeal, so don't just arrive for the headline match and leave — have a wander, watch practice, check out Court 1 and grab something from the food area before settling in for your main match. And yes, Munich being Munich, a pretzel is entirely appropriate tennis nutrition.

This is April clay season rather than guaranteed summer sunshine, so Munich can give you a bit of everything. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen, but keep a light layer handy — particularly if you're staying into the afternoon.

Excellent. This is one of the easier major tennis events to reach without a car. The Studentenstadt U-Bahn station on the U6 is about a five-minute walk from MTTC Iphitos, while parking around the venue is deliberately limited, so public transport is the sensible choice.

You want the scale and spectacle of a Masters 1000. Munich is growing, but its appeal is still rooted in the Iphitos club setting and the feeling of being close to the action rather than being one tiny person in a huge tennis machine.
